Goa, inarguably famous for its dazzling 120km long palm fringed coastline, by the Arabian sea, has made a mark as an ideal tourist destination. Goa has a seductive atmosphere perfect for relaxing, swimming, sunbathing and savouring the vast variety of delicious sea food specialities. This sea-washed, sun drenched Konkan territory presents a fusion of culture seldom found anywhere else in the world. This tiny speck on India’s map is a major dot on India’s tourism map, coming next only to the Taj Mahal. Shimmering crystal clear waters fringed by silver and golden sands adds a lot to the tropical blend of quixotic nights overflowing with music and passion blended superbly with long days of sun, sand and sea. Beautifully complimenting the romance of the sea is the grandiose of the fairy tale churches, whitewashed and ever so symmetrical against the backdrop of green paddy fields and coconut groves. While the beach is forever inviting, no less inspiring is the walk along a narrow path cutting amidst paddy fields and flanked by coconut groves. The palm-lined coastal plains, the wooded uplands and beaches so still and endless, create an illusion of lethargy - laziness. But in reality, it is not so.Goans are hardworking, full of song , dance and merriment. Goa owes it exotic personality to the foreign influences who account for the gregarious Goan enthusiasm, for their hybrid cuisine and locally brewed feni, a palm of cashew whisky. Goa’s main city, Panaji, still looks and feels like a sleepy Portuguese town. It is set along the southern bank of the salty Mandovi river, with broad avenues spilling into cobbled squares, grand public buildings, red tiled houses, narrow lanes and taverns.
In short, Life here is serene, peaceful…. And fun ! Just the
right combination for a perfect holiday.
Goa can be visited any time of the year. But it is most pleasant from November to February, though less crowded in March and April. It, however becomes very crowded in May - the annual holiday season in India. If you are the adventurous, visit Goa during the monsoons, from June to September.
